Local boy George Motz returned to the Lowcountry last year to stage his inaugural Charelston Food Film Festival, modeled after similar successful events in New York and Chicago.
By all accounts, the film fest here was a success too, treating locals to cool flicks and tasty treats, like smoked mackerel crostini, spicy shrimp fra diavolo, and sweet potato pie. Eric Doksa attended and deemed the Food Festival, “a great new festival to add to Charleston’s ever-growing festival lineup.”
For the second installment, Motz has programmed a full lineup of fun films and events. On Thursday, April 24, the Yorktown will host a full-on barbecue event. After a screening of John Markus’ short film The Kings of BBQ Kuwait, which documents barbecue champs feeding the troops, the same pitmasters will be on hand serving up an all-you-can-eat smoked brisket and chicken dinner.
The Food Porn Party returns on Friday April 25 with the screening of decadent films paired with decadent foods, like West Coast doughnuts, Baja fish tacos, fondue, and turtle burgers at High Wire Distilling Co.
On Saturday April 26, the party returns to High Wire where you can sink your teeth into a Ramen Burger, Momofuku’s Compost Cookies, and Takoyaki Balls during the Edible Adventure Series. As your mouth waters while watching Michael Fox’s Biting into the Ramen Burger, a real ramen burger will magically appear and sate your curious appetite. It’s the perfect multi-sensory marriage.
