Next week on Sat. Sept. 23 you’ll get the chance to take a step back in time. Walk with the dinosaurs? Sure, why not. Swim with sharks, fly with ancient birds, and learn all about the creatures that once roamed the lands of the Lowcountry.
The largest gallery in the Charleston Museum, the 4,000 square foot Natural History space features all-new exhibits and a number of natural history related objects that have not been displayed before. In addition to the objects on display, the gallery offers a number of expanded learning opportunities such as special study drawers, a learning lab, and a dedicated classroom for children’s activities.
Local designer and owner of design company Sisal Creative, Becca Barnet (who also happens to be a taxidermist, FYI), helped plan the gallery’s layout, in addition to refreshing and restoring various specimens on display. In a press release Barnet says, “The collection at the Charleston Museum is so special, so one of our main focuses was ensuring that every display, graphic, and detail was designed to highlight and elevate the incredible specimens.”
Next Saturday’s opening event, held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., is free with admission and free to museum members. There will be special presentations, crafts, and interactive experiences. Learn more about the Natural History gallery at charlestonmuseum.org.
