Have you seen trailers for The Mighty Macs? It’s a sports movie that was recently released into theaters.

What makes it stand out from similar films? It’s about a 1970s female college basketball team — students at the Catholic Immaculata College — who won the first NCAA championship in women’s basketball. Also, it co-stars Charleston native and former College of Charleston student Margaret Anne Florence as one of the girls.

The actress, who graduated from CofC with a B.A. in Music/Classical Voice, was featured locally in the Footlight Players’ Little Shop of Horrors. While Florence’s name might not be instantly recognizable, the film also stars Carla Gugino, Ellen Burstyn, and David Boreanaz, three very cool people in their own ways.

The film is currently playing at Citadel Mall Stadium 16, Regal Charles Towne Square Stadium 18, Regal Palmetto Grande Stadium 16, and Northwoods Stadium Cinemas. Find out more about the film and see a trailer at The Mighty Macs’ website.
