[image-1]While threatening serious enforcement of the city’s open container laws in advance of Friday’s big DMB concert at Joe Riley Stadium, the Charleston Police Department didn’t ticket a single (of age) tailgater for drinking in the parking lot. Not one.

It’s welcome news from a department that has claimed to be tough on these minor offenses so they don’t become major offenses. We reported earlier this year on how art studios downtown were warning patrons of the serious fines attached to carrying your booze with you at downtown art walks.

It’s about time the department realized that a soft stick is better for these special events.
