TastemakersCHS, Charleston’s only culinary social media club, which connects influencers, restaurants and nonprofits together under one umbrella, launched the CHS Restaurants Unite for Ukraine campaign earlier this month.
The group’s initiative is inspired by Ukrainian chef Ievgen Jlopotenko, who’s been tirelessly working to help feed the Ukrainian army, as well as provide shelter and education to Ukrainians to help them learn how to cook with the limited resources available.
The CHS Restaurants Unite campaign asks for restaurants to choose a dish or drink and donate $1 for every order through March 31 to GlobalGiving’s Ukrainian Crisis Relief Fund. GlobalGiving’s goal is to reach $10 million to help with shelter, food and water for refugees, health and psychosocial support and economic assistance.
As of March 15, 21 restaurants have pledged to join TastemakerCHS’s cause. The growing list of restaurants and its chosen dish or drink includes:
82 Queen — Beet Mule
Bitty Chip Cookies — Any order of a dozen cookies
Butcher & Bee — Gluten Free Almond Ricotta Cake
Charleston Distilling Co. — Kiev Mule
Church and Union — Meatball dish and Ghost cocktail

The social media group is also matching up to $500 in donations to the Ukrainian Crisis Relief Fund when individuals post their own donation receipts and tag @tastemakersCHS on Instagram.
TastemakersCHS hopes the initiative can spread across the state and continue past the March 31 deadline as interest increases.
