Charleston’s warming center will reopen at 8 p.m. Friday night through 7 a.m. Saturday morning due to the expected cold temperatures this evening.
Guests must arrive by 11 p.m. to check in at the Arthur W. Christopher Community center at 265 Fishburne Street, where homeless people will be offered a place to spend the night during the harsh weather.
The facility can hold up to 80 men, women and children within recommended CDC guidelines for sheltering during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Each guest will be checked for COVID-19 symptoms and have their temperature taken before entering to ensure the safety of volunteers and other guests. Masks will be provided and must be worn at all times.
CARTA will provide complimentary transportation within its service area to the warming shelter. The final departure from Mary Street’s transit hub will be at 9:20 p.m.
