It’s true: On the editorial side of the newspaper biz, we refer to advertising as “the dark side.” But we also recognize the talent that goes into designing creative ad campaigns.

Some of Charleston’s advertising stars were recognized at the third district ADDY Awards, held in Greensboro, N.C., last weekend. AAF (American Advertising Federation) Charleston members took home nine gold and eight silver ADDYs. KDP Marketing took home the Best in Show in the professional category for their Cristophe Harbour campaign. Other professional winners included the College of Charleston, Rawle Murdy Associates, and SLANT Media. In the student category, Philip Michael McKnight won Best in Show for his “simply breathtaking” material. Other student winners include Jennifer Hitchcock, Jeremy Darby, Kristina Evans, Laurie Ladd, and Summer Speaks. All student winners attend Trident Technical College.

District winners will be forwarded to the third tier, the national ADDY Awards competition. See aaf.org for more information.
