If you live, work, or play in Charleston’s unfortunately named Neck area (and we can say that because our offices are in the Neck), you should mark your calendar for the Community Design Charrette taking place Sept. 26-30.
The Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Council of Governments has begun working on a master plan for the area, roughly defined as extending from the foot of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to Interstate 526, including the industrial area on the south side of Charleston International Airport and the old Navy base.
They’re seeking community input to help define the future of the area, so if you have strong opinions on what you’d like to see the Neck become, this is your chance to weigh in.
A design team will be working all week on the plan, and the public is welcome to join at various times throughout the week, including a kickoff meeting with a presentation on Monday from 6-8 p.m., informal drop-ins Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., a public pin-up on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., and an open house with closing presentation on Friday from 5-8 p.m. All of this will be taking place at Sterett Hall in North Charleston.
