The buzz has been building in anticipation of a sugar rush for the ages: Krispy Kreme has released a Cheerwine-flavored doughnut that will be available for July only in the Carolinas.

We sent our intern Lindsay on a mission to sniff out the doughnuts this morning. Although the official word is that they aren’t available at Krispy Kreme locations, we found that to be false.

“They only give them to you if you ask for them,” Lindsay says. “When I asked for the doughnuts, the cashier looked around and then looked at me and said, ‘I can give you one.’” Somehow, our intrepid intern managed to walk away with a dozen.

The doughnuts are stuffed with a sweet filling that tastes uncannily like the classic Southern cherry-flavored soft drink. It’s topped with a chocolate glaze and red and white sprinkles. Cheerwine fans in the office approved, while non-fans and northerners were confused by the excitement. Either way, prepare yourself for an intense sweetness.

These wonderful abominations will be available in local grocery stores starting Saturday.
