Chef Patrick Owens has won over many fans with his Asian-inspired Southern food at Langdon’s in Mt. Pleasant. Indeed, his distinctive cuisine and solid wine list has made Langdon’s Mt. Pleasant’s only AAA Four-Diamond award winner.
On June 27, Owens quietly opened a new restaurant sure to fall right in line with Langdon’s high quality and superior service. Opal is located in Seaside Farms (1960 Riviera Dr.) and serves dinner nightly (except Sundays). Owens describes the ever-changing menu as “California meets Mediterranean.”
Slightly less expensive than Langdon’s, with entrees hitting the $15-$25 mark, Opal’s lineup includes pasta made in house, fresh local ingredients, and an extensive wine and cheese menu.
The menu changes daily, but Owens says the whole-wheat chitarra pasta with shrimp, tomatoes, and pecornia was a big hit on opening night as was the braised local pork shoulder wtih wild mushroom farro, mustard greens, and bourbon jus. Other menu items you might encounter include local grouper with soft goat cheese polenta, tagliatelle with pork sausage, and porcini agnolotti.
