Looking for your moment to shine in the Holy City? The City of Charleston is seeking submissions for a variety of contests and events, giving everyone a chance to get in the spotlight.
The Parade of Boats, produced by the City of Charleston and the Charleston Sail and Power Squadron, is seeking participants for this year’s event. Local boaters deck out their vessels in holiday lights and decorations for a chance at claiming the top prize — prizes are awarded for both power and sail boats. Entries cost $25 for recreational vehicles and $50 for commercial vessels and are due Dec. 2. The Parade of Boats will take place on Dec. 4. Call (843) 724-7414 for more info.
South Carolina artists are invited to submit artwork for consideration for the 2011 Piccolo Spoleto poster image. Submissions must be two-dimensional, original, and must not have been previously exhibited in any city programs. The winner will have their image distributed throughout the city on program books, festival posters, and merchandise, and they’ll be awarded between $500 and $1,000. Deadline is Dec. 9. The city is also seeking artists for the 2011 Charleston Farmers Market poster contest. The winning design should evoke the Farmers Market’s mission to support and advocate Lowcountry farmers. Applicants must live in the tri-county area and they’re limited to two entries. Winners will have their image distributed throughout the city on Farmers Market merchandise and they’ll be awarded between $300 and $500. The deadline is Dec. 10. It seems like the MOJA Arts Festival just wrapped up, but they’re already planning the 2011 event, which will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 9. If you’d like to perform or present at the African American and Caribbean Arts Festival, send a cover letter, example of your work, photos, and press information to the Office of Cultural Affairs. The deadline is Jan. 14.
