The ale and lager flows steadily at the Mellow Mushroom in Mt. Pleasant (3110 Hwy. 17, 843-881-4743). All summer, the newly-established pizzeria/hang-out issued a mix of cool beer specials and hosted various sudsy get-togethers. Management recently announced some more late-summer beer events worth checking out — including three nicely-priced, four-course dinners across the next month.
Guests will start off with a glass of Coast’s new light summer ale, ALTerior Motive Draft. Coast’s bitter and citrusy HopArt IPA will served with a feta “salsa” brushcetta and fresh arugula. Their malty light ale 32/50 Kölsch will be paired with a mesculin baby green salad with roasted fresh peaches, candied pecans, and blue cheese. The newly-released, caramel-malty Red Legs Scotch Ale will be served with the venue’s popular Mighty Meaty Pie Plus pizza. The dessert course pairs the high-gravity, super-hoppy Stone Brewing Company’s Imperial Russian Stout with a Chocolate Stout Cake with chocolate ganache (made with the specialty Stone stout, available in limited release in 22-ounce bottles and on draught). The dinner starts at 7 p.m. Reserved seating is available for $30 per person.
On Mon. Aug. 17, the venue hosts another special beer dinner featuring ales from the long-running Midwest fave Bell’s Brewery (Kalamazoo, Mich.): Bell’s Oberon wheat ale, Bell’s flagship Amber Ale, the popular Bell’s Porter, and the full-bodied Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout. Derek Zomonski, the certified Cicerone from Bell’s Brewing Inc., will be in attendance. Dinner time is 7 p.m. Reservations are available at $40 a seat.
On the horizon, Mellow Mushroom welcomes guests to a full menu of beers from the upstate micro Thomas Creek Brewery (Greenville, S.C.) on Wed. Sept. 2. All attendees will also receive a complimentary $10 gift card for use at a later date.
“All registrants and guests of beer dinners will be notified prior to public announcements of beer dinners in the future,” reads the Mellow Mushroom announcement. “Pricing will be for $20 for our 100 beer club members. No one under 21 will be permitted. Please register all people attending.”
