[embed-1] Rip City CHS, a monthly comedy variety show featuring everything from solo characters to live music, puts on a big ol’ performance — lovingly titled Ripolo Citleto Festival — on Thurs. May 30 at Holy City Brewery at 9 p.m. Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased at the door.
If you can’t tell, Ripolo Citleto is a riff on Spoleto Festival, an attempt to “capitalize on the sudden interest in artsy events” that always seems to happen in Charleston this time of year.
Created and curated by comedy duo Henry Riggs and Maari Suorsa a.k.a. Nameless Numberhead, Rip City took a brief hiatus last year but has since returned, popping up at a variety of venues around town. Every Rip City showing is different, so be prepared for fresh laughs.
[content-4] In addition to bringing a “nice comedy time” to fun spots like Holy City Brewery, Rip City has been a successful platform for aspiring comedy acts, with spin offs from the show including Vernon Moses, a local sketch group comprised of Deshawn Mason and Jon Antoine.
If ya can’t make it to this May 30 show, be sure to follow Rip City on Facebook and the ‘gram to see where they’ll pop up next. You can also catch Nameless Numberhead performing as part of Piccolo Fringe, Piccolo Spoleto’s comedy collab with Theatre 99, on Sun. May 26 at 9:30 p.m.
