Notice to drivers heading West of the Ashley: Your route off the peninsula has changed. As part of the county’s Roadwise program, improvements on Courtenay Drive and Bee Street near the Crosstown have included making Courtenay a one-way route heading between U.S. 17 South and U.S. 17 North. A full two lanes for traffic heading from the Crosstown toward the downtown hospitals and Calhoun Street should improve traffic flow. Alternate routes include the narrow drive down Westcott Street or one more block up to President Street. You can also change your route, taking Calhoun to Lockwood and then heading across the river. Or you can just head back downtown and never leave.
