Got a killer oyster stew or a clever spin on oysters Rockefeller? You might want to register for this year’s oyster recipe contest being hosted by the Charleston Restaurant Association. This year, not only will professional chefs get to compete but so will culinary students and home cooks. The competition is broken into three categories, to be fair, and will award the top two vote getters in each category with $300 for first and $200 for second.

The judging will take place at an event on Mon. Jan. 24 at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus downtown. Pre-register your recipe by calling Kathy Britzius at (843) 452-6088.

The recipe contest is the annual precursor to the big Lowcountry Oyster Festival, where tens of thousands of pounds of oysters are slurped down every year at Boone Hall in Mt. Pleasant. Mark your calendars for that one: Sun. Jan. 30, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets ($12 in advance) are already on sale at Southcoast Community Banks, Boone Hall Farms, the Mt. Pleasant Visitors Center, and online at www.charlestonrestaurantassociation.com.
