Cultura Clips: Two minutes with Nory

IllVibeTheTribe’s AsiahMae spoke with local hip-hop artist Nory, who’ll perform at this weekend’s Matt Monday-curated Cultura Festival. A landmark event, Cultura is Charleston’s first all-hip-hop, dance, and R&B fest debuting at the Royal American on Sat. April 20. Doors at 5 p.m.

CP: Why do you feel Cultura is important?
N: Representation is crucial, artistic and racial. This city needs to see exactly what Cultura is providing.

CP: Why is it important for you to be a part of this inaugural festival?
N: I believe I speak for a percentage of young people in this city who don’t feel heard. Being a part of this festival would give me the chance to speak to the hearts of those people, if they’re in attendance.

CP: What do you hope to gain from being a part of this?
N: As I said before, I would just like the chance to speak. That’s what I hope to gain as well.

CP: What are you currently working on that you’re looking forward to sharing?
N: Now how’s it going to be any fun if I do that? There’s a whole lot being worked on at the moment. Not all music. As far as music, there are new albums in the near future.

CP: What do you want fans to take away from your set?
N: I’ll leave that up to them to decide. What everyone will take away is a mystery to me.
