Today was Charleston Fashion Week’s Catwalk for Kids, a luncheon benefitting the MUSC Children’s Hospital. Lunch was provided by Chef Brett McKee at Oak Steakhouse (who, by the way, has been invited back yet again to the James Beard House in NYC where he will be showing off his talent next week). Lunch was getting wrapped up when I arrived, just in time for the man of the hour, Wayne Newton, to walk onstage for the event’s finale performance. Wayne sang four of his Las Vegas tunes, including one while playing guitar and one sweetly sung to a girl who is a patient at MUSC. Of course, he wouldn’t have been let off stage without singing everyone’s favorite “Danke Schoen,” which he did with the band. His voice isn’t the young one you hear in the recording anymore, but he still definitely deserves the “Mr. Las Vegas” title with that smooth talking — not to mention impressive tan, white suit, and gleaming veneers. —Hadley Lyman
