Daps Breakfast & Imbibe is known for breakfast, brunch and drinks — now, the crew is helping you take the drinks home.
The restaurant-favorite mimosas are now canned and ready to enjoy from the comfort of your dinner table, couch or patio.
According to Daps co-owner, Nick Dowling, this new venture is the result of a new hobby picked up during the pandemic.
“When the pandemic hit, obviously we couldn’t sell [mimosas in the restaurant], so we started selling them in quarts [to-go],” said Dowling. “But they didn’t look too pretty.”
Back in April of 2021, Daps owners Dowling and Jeremiah Schenzel were offered a crowler machine from Charlestowne Fermentory owner Adam Goodwin to “can-up some cocktails.”
Using the crowler machine, Dowling and Schenzel canned a couple of cases of mimosas and the next day, completely sold out.
“We went back over there the next day and did it again and then we realized quickly that this needs to be a thing,” said Dowling. “Adam saw that as well and said, ‘just take it with you.'”
With an in-house crowler machine, canning the mimosas became a part of the restaurant and once people caught on, according to Dowling, “it took off,” and not only with locals, but with tourists as well.
“That’s when we realized this was actually a really big thing,” he added.
Each can is 12 ounces, which is the equivalent to about two mimosas, according to Schenzel. And because of that, as well as a “high alcohol to orange content,” each can is around 8.7-8.8% ABV.
“It’s not a light drink,” added Dowling. “But because of the way we built it, it makes it super crushable.”
Though Daps’ mimosas won’t be available in grocery stores quite yet (keep an eye out on Instagram @dapsbevco for updates), they can be found in bottle shops and grab-and-gos like Co-Op or Graft. Additionally, Daps Mimosa is available through Advintage for restaurant or bar distribution.
The canned mimosas can also be found, of course, at the restaurant at 280 Ashley Ave.
