[image-1]Former candidate Ginny Deerin has endorsed frontrunner John Tecklenburg to be the next mayor of Charleston.
During a press conference held Thursday in front of Tecklenburg’s West Ashley home, Deerin encouraged her supports to cast their vote for Tecklenburg in the upcoming runoff election against Leon Stavrinakis on Nov. 17.
Deerin received 4,377 votes in Tuesday’s election, finishing third behind Stavrinakis who was less than 300 votes from the lead. No other candidates from Tuesday’s election have publicly announced an endorsement, but Deerin says she’s confident that Tecklenburg is the best option for the city’s next leader.
“When decisions need to be made, we’re not going to have to worry about back-room deals because John is going to make decisions based on what’s in the best interest of his citizens because he has high integrity,” Deerin said. “When employees need to be hired, contracts need to be made, we’re not going to have to worry about those jobs and contracts going to friends and family and donors because John is going to pick the people he believes are going to work in the best interest of the citizens of Charleston.”
Now that her campaign is over, Deerin plans to assist Tecklenburg’s camp in any way she can and return to operating her consulting business. Tecklenburg thanked Deerin for her support and for making transportation and infrastructure issues the focus of her campaign.
“I’ve long been proud to call Ginny a friend,” Tecklenburg said in a statement released by his campaign. “And, today, I’m proud to be able to call her a supporter as she joins our campaign to make Charleston not just the best city in America to visit, but also the best place to live, work, worship, and raise a family.”
