All he’s asking for is a day off to enjoy the holiday with his family and maybe recover from those crazy Senate office Christmas parties.
DeMint told Politco on Wednesday that he was tired of having to personally having to block and stall legislation right up to Christmas (note: we’re still a week away, mind you).
“We shouldn’t be jamming a major arms control treaty up against Christmas; it’s sacrilegious and disrespectful. What’s going on here is just wrong. This is the most sacred holiday for Christians. They did the same thing last year – they kept everybody here until [Christmas Eve] to force something down everybody’s throat. I think Americans are sick of this.”
Of course, Democratic leaders including Sen. Harry Reid and Vice President Joe Biden gave DeMint an earful for what came off as either laziness or a bad holiday season bout with Tryptophan. Apparently realizing that, in fact, the fruitcake would taste the same regardless of when you get home, DeMint issued a clarification later in the day.
“So we all want to go home and be with our families. If they want to do it, let’s stay here until New Year’s eve.”
