Old-school rapper and hip-hop activist Doug E. Fresh will perform at the Music Farm on New Year’s Day. It’s a last-minute booking that was announced on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 30).

The Harlem native — known among fans as the World’s Greatest Entertainer and the Original Human Beatbox — earned acclaim in the late ’80s with such hits as “The Show” and “La-Di-Da-Di.” Fresh has embraced hip-hop activism and used his voice to speak out against a variety of issues. He’s performed or recorded with fellow rap legends, including Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, P. Diddy, and Dr. Dre. He’s also worked with artists in reggae, R&B, jazz, and gospel.

Fresh and his crew perform at 9 p.m. on Dec. 30. Tickets are available through Etix.com for $25 in advance at $30 at the door. Visit musicfarm.com and myspace.com/originalhumanbeatbox for more.
