[image-1]Spoleto is almost upon us, and as with any world-class arts festival, traffic is of utmost concern.
The festival’s opening ceremony taking place downtown is scheduled to begin Fri. May 27 at noon and last until 1:15 p.m. In preparation for the event, road closures at Meeting Street and Broad Street and Broad Street and Church Street will begin at 9 a.m. Closures at Broad and King, Meeting and Queen, Meeting and Tradd, and Meeting and Chalmers streets will begin at 11:45 a.m. These streets will reopen once the ceremony is complete, but the 9 a.m. closures will be in effect until all stage material and equipment are cleared from the roadways.
According to the Charleston Police Department, limited traffic will be allowed east of the ceremony on Broad Street for business purposes only, and all parking meters in the affected area will be bagged during the ceremony. Handicapped parking will be allowed at the meter spaces on Broad Street near Church Street or in other designated spaces and public garages.
