Duvet is more than Charleston’s premier local hospitality home for visitors looking for outstanding vacation rentals and boutique accommodations.  The company also helps guests enjoy the Holy City and make lifetime memories by connecting them directly with dozens of local businesses to help them live like locals in the historic city named the world’s top travel destination.

“It’s important for Duvet to send clients to authentic, local businesses,” said Taylor Gates, a principal at Duvet, located on Spring Street in Charleston.  “We don’t connect guests with mainstream businesses that may be found in other markets.

“We intentionally push a ‘Live Like a Local Lifestyle’ to offer a unique experience to our guests.  We want to make sure to urge our guests to visit outstanding smaller businesses in the boroughs or the ones that have a great reputation for great service alone.”

The essence of Charleston hospitality

Gates said the company, which hosted 100,000 guests in 2021 during the height of the pandemic, gets questions every day from guests wondering where locals go to eat, drink, shop, walk historic streets, and play with kids and pets.

So the company created an easy-to-use, colorful guide of its favorite places.

“We believe this is key for having guests return to our city,” Gates said.  “When they realize that there are so many cool, unique boutique businesses and that they have such a short window to see and do, they’ll want to come back and explore more using our guide.

“Our guests are here to spend money locally and our guide is a hidden gem for them and a better alternative to Yelp, Open Table, Eater and other online resources,” he said.  “Our guide is not paid advertising.  It’s just what we as a team all love to do when our own families or friends come to town and we want to host them.

“It’s the essence of Charleston hospitality.”

Local business owners laud Duvet’s business leadership

Chef Dan Caruso, owner of the Groceries Ahead personal grocery service, says his partnership with Duvet is a great fit to provide guests with concierge service in local properties.

“We work closely with them to stock vacation rentals or residences before guests arrive,” he said.  “And when we deliver, we are also extra eyes on the property so that we can make sure the home is ready and up to Duvet’s high standards.”

An added bonus is that if Duvet knows of challenges that could impact a guest’s arrival – bad weather, missed flights or a delay – it can get Groceries Ahead to deliver something extra, like  wine and cheese, “so the guest feels like they’re still special by staying through Duvet.”

Edward Crouse, a co-wner of Babas on Cannon eatery, highlighted Duvet’s commitment to local service: “They care enough about connecting local businesses with visitors to the city that they have placed our app in every single property in the neighborhood so folks can get food and drinks delivered to their door from a business in the neighborhood.”

Paula Reavis of Charleston said she is thankful for Duvet’s recommendations for her two vacation equipment rental businesses, Charleston Baby’s Away, and Beach and Games To Go.

“Throughout Covid, they continued to be our biggest referral company with their downtown Charleston rentals,” she said.  Our relationship with Duvet has developed into much more than referrals.  We look forward to our continued relationship with Duvet and its amazing team and guests.”

Maria Castellano of Longevity Fitness Charleston recommends Duvet with confidence to members and visitors.

“It has a unique ability to deliver thoughtful, tailored hospitality while maintaining professionalism and transparency,” she said.  “In our current climate where there are so many contingencies and variables, having one less thing to plan for means everything.

This home on Line Street is available, too.

“And as a Charleston-based small business, we love how Duvet encourages each guest to live, eat, shop and, of course, exercise, like a true local. We enjoy sharing our passion of providing an elevated, customer care-driven experience with a like-minded brand and hospitality powerhouse.”

Duvet’s Gates said working with local businesses is an honor.

“We are very blessed to have such an amazing city with such great business owners who care so much about delivering great service with a big smile on their faces,” he said.  “This is refreshing, especially in today’s times when there is a plethora of negativity and fear all around us.

“People truly do see the friendliest city in America when a local business like Duvet works with other local businesses to serve our visitors. Happiness isn’t real unless you share it.”
