One of the most highly-anticipated shows on tap during this year’s Spoleto Festival USA, set to kick off next Friday, is the Halsey Institute’s Jasper Johns-Shepard Fairey show to celebrate the Halsey’s 30th Anniversary. And since local boy Fairey is involved, you know there will be some rad street art to go along with it.

Local social media feeds have been buzzing about potential locations for new OBEY pieces around town, but local photographer and sometime CP contributor BadJon has posted an early peek at the first Fairey mural, going up on the Calhoun Street facade of College of Charleston’s College Lodge residence hall.

Fairey, the world-famous alt-artist behind “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” (which spawned his OBEY GIANT brand), the iconic “Hope” poster that’s become synonymous with Barack Obama’s 2008 election, and dozens of other unmistakable works across the globe, was born and raised in the Holy City and his family remains local.
