President Bush and friends are sticking to the plan in Iraq.

Connecticut independent, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, continued his longtime support of Bush’s war strategy on the Senate floor Tuesday, saying that “American and Iraqi security forces are winning.” The 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate accused lawmakers of bowing to opinion polls and upcoming elections.

First, the fact that it’s necessary to describe it as “longtime” support of the war strategy alone is telling. Second, politicians are usually forced to bow to opinion polls because of upcoming elections. Lieberman’s career may have cheated death, but I don’t think many others are looking for that kind of fight.
