I don’t think I’d sale the news quite the way The State did, but John Edwards polled ahead of Barack Obama in the latest South Carolina presidential poll. With the margin of error at 4 percent, the lead is insignificant, but it does show an increase in support for Edwards as Obama’s numbers dip. Hillary continued to dominate the poll with 32 percent.

On the Republican side, support for Fred Thompson slipped as Rudy Giuliani continued to lead the field. But the big news was Mike Huckabee’s climb to tie with Mitt Romney for fourth. McCain continues to hover at 12 percent. Unfortunately for Huckabee, his is still a grassroots campaign that can’t make real progress without cash.
