An Italian muralist named Hitnes is traveling across the United States to retrace the journeys of the father of birding, John James Audubon, and two of his stops are West Ashley’s Avondale neighborhood and Summerville. In each city he visits, Hitnes is painting an Audubon-inspired mural of birds he sees in the area, so his trips include time in nature bird-watching, as well as in front of a wall with paintbrush in hand.
Enough Pie, the creative placemaking organization focused on Charleston’s Upper Peninsula, is hosting a free talk with Hitnes this Fri. Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. — if you’re interested in birds, street art, or both, you should definitely consider attending. The talk will be held at the Joseph Floyd Manor at 2106 Mount Pleasant St.
And if you can’t attend the talk, you can still check out the murals. The Avondale painting will be in the outdoor chART Gallery, while the Summerville one will be on the side of the downtown parking garage.
