While Charleston’s Wine + Food festival has been gaining traction in the Lowcountry for the past decade, Euphoria Greenville, another non-profit food and wine fest, has also been making a name for itself. Now in its 10th year, the four-day long event attracts big name chefs from around the country, including some great minds from Charleston.
In a 2009 City Paper’s Stephanie Barna called the wine, music, and food festival a “mini version” of the Charleston Wine + Food fest, adding that Greenville, at the time, had a “small but ambitious” food scene. Six years later that small scene is growing, drawing reviews from the likes of Huff Post who, in 2014, called the festival simply “fabulous.” That article also mentioned Greenville’s small-town past, “Not terribly long ago, it was just another Southern textile town suffering from polluted rivers, over-farming, and main street blight.”
With an influx of foodies, however, Euphoria has come into its own. The festival’s founders Carl Sobocinski and musician Edwin McCain, a rockstar (really) from Greenville, has helped the town join Charleston as a South Carolina culinary destination. It even got its own Eater Heatmap in ’13.
So if you’re looking for a little upstate getaway this weekend, here’s Charleston’s contribution to this year’s Euphoria line-up:
On Sun. Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Chef Frank Lee and Chef Kevin Johnson will join four other chefs at the dinner at Rick’s Deli and Market where dishes will be paired with wines from Napa’s Silverado Vineyards. Chef Lee and Johnson are also participating in the sold out Sunday Supper which features 10 chefs from the Southeast.
Trattoria Lucca’s Chef Ken Vedrinski hosts two sold out dinners, Cucina Italiana, on Sat. Sept. 19 and Sun. Sept. 20.
492’s Chef Nate Whiting will participate in the Sat. Sept. 19 cooking demonstrations (time TBD) as well as the the culinary village from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.
And we’d be remiss not to mention Charleston (now Nashville) darling Tyler Boone, who will be performing during the day on Sat. Sept. 19.
