Last Saturday, composer/pianist Christopher O’Riley did a bit of his “Radiohead thing” at the Music Farm. Next week, a throng of sizzle-brain visual artists and musicians get prepared for their own Radiohead-themed event on Sat. June 13 at 8 p.m. at Eye Level Art (2143 Heriot St.). “It’s an art show. It’s a music concert. It’s 100 percent inspired by Radiohead’s 1997 album OK Computer,” say organizers. Wow.
Under the title Ones and Zeros, Eye Level Art describes the event as “a step in a new direction for the arts community in Charleston … thematically tied to one of the landmark records of the 20th century, the artwork and music performance for Ones and Zeros will be united to create a meaningful and exciting new multimedia experience.”
The event features such local artists as Ishmael, Carl Janes, Max Miller, and Scott Debus, among other local talent, with a range of paintings, sculptures, and elaborate installations. Pieces featured will be for sale by the artists in a silent auction. Tracks from OK Computer will be performed by a “Charleston all-star rock band” with a rotation of guest vocalists and musicians, including Joel Hamilton (of the Working Title), Tyler Mechem (of Crowfield), Owen Beverly (of Tent Revival), and Lindsay Holler (of the Western Polaroids) backed by Micah Nichols (of Crowfield), Mannie Schumpert, and Tommy Hamer (of the Fire Apes). Additional surprise guests will surely be on hand.
