This is it — the final “Metal Monday” at Cumberland’s, tonight, Dec. 17. The weekly Monday night live “heavy metal karaoke” has been a tradition at Cumberland’s for years. The house band (featuring members of Jump, Slow Runner, and Playlist) plan to crank out a tight set or two of rock classics from the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s starting at 10:30 p.m. Mondays. There’s been talk of a final “Metal Monday on Saturday” gig on Sat. Dec. 29, but things aren’t solid quite yet.

[image-1]“Metal Monday” kicked off in 2004 at Johnny Ola’s Anchor Café’s under the guidance of guitarist Ward Williams, drummer Evan Bivins, bassist Johnny Gray (all three of Jump, Little Children), and Kenny Harris, keyboardist from The Films. When Johnny Ola’s closed in 2005, the band started a residency at Cumberland’s. Multi-instrumentalists Josh Kaler and Chris McLernon (both mostly on guitar) joined the rotation in 2006.

Where and when will the mëtal mädness end up next (if at all)? Johnson’s Pub? The Pour House? The High Spirits Lounge. We’ll have to wait and see…

**Confirmed on 12/21:

[image-2]The house band bounced back and has indeed landed at the Pour House where they will kick things back into action on Mon. Jan. 7th.  “We’ve expanded the set list,” reports guitarist Chris McLernon. “In addition to all the hard-rock and metal favorites, we’re adding more Ratt, Zeppelin, Metallica, and we’re staying with a lot of ’80s stuff — like Tom Petty, The Clash, The Police, Blondie, The Pretenders, Journey, Duran Duran … I think Cheap Trick is always heinously under-represented.” Sign-up starts at 9 p.m.
