One of the most controversial tasks the new legislature will have to face is redistricting. Expectations from the 2010 Census suggests there will be a seventh South Carolina Congressional district and carving this turkey will be near impossible for Statehouse Republicans. When you look at a map of counties that went to Democrat Vincent Sheheen, you see a perilous situation. Republicans will have to find a way to provide Congressman Joe Wilson and Congressman-elect Tim Scott with safe, conservative districts, while creating a third GOP-leaning coastal district.
