St. Patty’s Day may seem far away, but for those who can’t wait, you’re in luck. This weekend is the perfect chance to get your Irish fix. Irish pub and restaurant Finn McGoo’s celebrates its grand opening on Sat. Jan. 22 in downtown Summerville (208 East 5th St.). The new venue features Irish decorations and freshly-painted green walls.
Finbar McCarthy and his wife Gloria will serve authentic dishes including steak and Guinness casserole, shepherd’s pie, cottage pie, and corn beef hash. The menu also includes classic fish and chips, potato skins, and traditional plates like burgers, BLTs, and chicken sandwiches.

To wash it all down, Irish beers like Guinness, Smithwicks, and Harp will be on tap along with a standard menus of domestic bottled beers. Jameson Irish whiskey shots are the daily house special. McCarthy assures there will be “various other specials on and off throughout the night.”
On Saturday, the Whiskey of the Damned, a Celtic-influenced rock group based mainly out of Milwaukee, perform at the venue at 7 p.m. The five-piece group will bring a high-energy blend of American and Irish styles. McCarthy himself will perform folk and ballad songs.
The McCarthys moved to Charleston two years ago from the Milwaukee area where his first restaurant, McCarthy’s, remains. Their first plan for a restaurant in Summerville fell through but they decided to stay, bringing their roots to the Holy City, and as they say, trust in the luck of the Irish.
