Ten bucks says it’s a steak house. That’s our bet for the redux of 167 East Bay St., formerly Cypress restaurant. No solid plans have been revealed yet, but the word on the street is that Fleet Landing owners Weesie & Tradd Newton’s newest restaurant will likely follow the Halls Chophouse model.

But is a steak house what East Bay needs? The street is looking a little limp as of late. With Cypress boarded up and the giant Lagunitas space shuttered indefinitely, the tourist corridor that once burned so bright is awfully quiet.

Then there’s the fact that the area already has a glut of beef. There’s Oak around the corner, Ruth’s Chris in the market, and Grill 225 a few doors down. Would fine cuts be enough to fill the giant two-story space? We have our doubts.
