Well, the celebuchefs have descended and Charleston looks ready, judging by the number of tents in Marion Square. Last night, we saw McCrady’s Chef Sean Brock at the Best of Charleston party  — picking up his plaque for winning Best Chef and sporting what can only be described as a gas station attendant look. He was going to bring Wylie Dufresne with him, but Wylie ended up eating dinner at FIG.

If you don’t know, Dufresne runs  wd~50 in NYC and will be cooking with Brock at McCrady’s for tomorrow night’s Dine Around. Dufresne is also the guy who came up with the best quickfire challenge I’ve ever seen in any Top Chef episode: eggs.

I wanted to get over to the Top Sommelier competition at Charleston Place, which started at 11 a.m., but considering that I’m still in my pajamas (let’s just say, the Best of Charleston party last night was fun), I don’t think I’m gonna make it.

Tonight, there’s a VIP party for sponsors and visiting chefs followed by the Salute to Chefs event in the tents at Marion Square (sold out). I think I’m going to let our calendar girl Erica Jackson cover that for us, since I’ve got a busy Friday and Saturday.

Tomorrow, the opening ceremonies kick off at 11 a.m. and the grand tasting tents open in the afternoon. The King Street Sip and Stroll is a nice low-key event, if you’re looking for something to do. It’ll feature plenty of food and wine and will go from 3-6 p.m.

I’ll be covering the festival all day Friday and Saturday, so check in and see what’s happening. And if you’ve got anything to report, post it on the comments!
