Just as local Confederates fired the first shots of the Civil War in 1861, the first commemorations for the anniversary of the Civil War are already under way.

The U.S. Postal Service has announced the release of a pair of commemorative stamps on April 12, 2011, 150 years after the attack on Fort Sumter. The two-stamp set will include the “Bombardment of Fort Sumter, Charleston Harbor” and “The Capture of Rickett’s Battery,” an image from the First Battle of Bull Run.
