For freeloaders, it’s nice to get scared about something other than paying rent. Here’s a list of all the free Halloween events this week. But not all things free come with a Halloween theme.

MONDAY. Today is National Food Day. Halloween, shmalloween, am I right? Rediscover your love for all things edible at the Food Festival at the Cistern. Local food trucks will be onsite, as will live music and local food organizations. Play some foodie games and catch a screening of Ingredients at Sundown.

TUESDAY. The Local Honeys will be playing Americana rock with a twist at Tattooed Moose. The Poetry Series presents a poetry reading at Circular Congressional Church.

WEDNESDAY. Kids aren’t the only ones getting free candy this week. Christophe Artisan Chocolatier is hosting a Holiday Preview Party to showcase his new holiday season creations. Have a few tastes and pre-order items at a 10 percent discount. Stems on Coming Street is hosting a slightly different showcase for the Charleston Artist Collective. The First Anniversary Show is an opportunity to meet the artists, observe their work, and benefit the Lowcountry Open Land Trust.

THURSDAY. “Urban farm” may sound like an oxymoron, but it’s become a cash cow for many in New York. Find out how they’ve done it and why it’s sustainable at the Truck Farm! Screening. More films will be shown at the Mellow Mushroom in West Ashley, where they’ll be featuring a number of gory short-length features and plenty of food and drink specials. Queen Street Grocery will serve beer, wine, and light snacks at the Pediatric Cancer Benefit for MUSC.

FRIDAY. The pumpkins are getting punked up at Burger Babies’ Urban Picnic, where they’ve invited local celebrities to create pumpkin designs. Food and drink specials will run from 5-8 p.m., and proceeds will benefit Chase After a Cure. Rock out with your grandma out at Tanger Outlet’s Rock A Thon. Rocking chair teams will compete to raise money for senior citizens’ healthcare.

SATURDAY. More than 100 notable artisans from all over the country will be at Patriot’s Point for the Greater Charleston Fine Art Festival. Browse their rare-to-Charleston creations on Saturday and Sunday.
