Tuesday: Start the week off the right way with a free facial from 29 Cosmetics, Kleo Sarant will be giving free mini facials and makeup consultations.
Wednesday: Free movie night in Charleston includes two good ones. Starlight Cinema will screen Glory Road, the story of Texas Western’s college basketball team with the first all-black starting lineup. The Terrace’s Family Film Series continues with Tom Hanks’ Big.
Thursday: Summer graduates from Trident Tech’s film, radio and television, and visual arts programs will exhibit their work at the Film, Media and Visual Arts Information Night/Graduate Exhibition. Faculty will also be on hand to talk to guests about the different Trident Tech programs. The Illuminations 27 Launch Party celebrates the new issue of Illuminations magazine, and new editor, Marguerite Scott-Copses. The celebration will include a reading from featured poet Peter McMillan. Mueller’s Pub hosts Lachen Loudly Comedy Night. Hosted by Moey Conway, the show features comedians Charly Williams, David Appleton, Ian Riggin, and Derek Humphrey.
Friday: Helen Duckworth opens her Dreams and Reflections exhibition. The show tries to dig into the subconscious through oils, mixed-media works on paper, prints, poetry, and more. Get hip to the newest fashion by exploring the new fall collection at the Current/Elliott Trunk Show.
Saturday: Disc golf lovers should head to Park Circle for a chance to show off their skills. The Disc Golf Competition will include a distance throw, hole-in-one, and partnered trick competitions along with food trucks, live music, and giveaways. The Contemporary Charleston series ends with Collector’s Hour at the City Gallery. All eight of the series’ artists will have new works on display. Karin Olah opens her Unwound and Bound exhibition featuring floral and abstract works. Pet Helpers and Charleston Animal Society join forces at Adoption Fest. Hello My Name is BBQ and Roti Rolls will be on hand for the event meant to encourage animal adoption. A festival of a different kind, Wake Fest will showcase Charleston wakeboarders and a new live band the last Saturday of every month.
Sunday: This weekend, violinist Brent Price and keyboardist Todd Monsell perform Baroque, Classical, and Romantic period works at the Summer at St. John’s Concert Series. Also, Sunday night marks the start of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. Nothing is cooler than a shark in slow motion HD.
