Wednesday: American Idol is back in the Lowcountry looking for new talent. Half of the line will be Idol hopefuls, the other half, future Mr. Jennifer Lopez hopefuls. With voice overs from Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and Tina Fey, animated Megamind continues the Starlight Cinema series.

Thursday: Trident Tech hosts the Main Street USA summer celebration. The program will include ice cream sundaes and performances by the Southern Harmony Chorus and River City Dixieland Jazz Band. The Sea Kayak Carolina Art Show hosts Susan Walters’ pottery and Juan Brown’s nature photography. Join local poets at the Third Thursday Poetry Slam for a night of open mic readings and performances hosted by the Outlaw Poets.

Friday: Has it been too long since you saw a Nazi get his or her ass kicked? Movies at the Mt. Pleasant Pier will screen Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Theater 99’s Blast Off? show is a night of experimental comedy for the local troupe. As such, the event is pay what you can, so technically it could be free, but you should at least throw in some change.

Saturday: Bizarro Burlesque presents the free fan appreciation Summer of Love Burlesque Freakout at The Mill. The event will include games, raffles, prizes, and performances by dancers from North Carolina to Hawaii. Although you might not want to bring the kids, there will be a place to leave donations of school supplies for Mary Ford Elementary. Swing by the Eco Deco grand opening to receive free advice from staff and local interior designers. They will be lecturing on everything from color selection to air quality improvement.

Experience American folk tradition with Sacred Harp Singing. Join fellow folk enthusiasts in singing unaccompanied gospel hymns and campmeeting songs. All ages and skill levels are invited. Contemporary Charleston 2011: Under the Radar Artists Lectures continues with Nina Garner and D. H. Cooper. The Sewee Outpost hosts the Shorebird Fashion Show. The lecture will educate people on how shorebirds are physically adapted to survive and make annual migrations. Although the fashion show should be educational, I fear the models may give young women unrealistic body image goals.

Sunday: Pet Helpers sponsors Kitten Fever at Towne Center. The event will teach about and encourage pet adoption. And kittens!
