Sure, some Spoleto events have ticket prices in the $100 range. But there’s still plenty of ways to get your arts festival fill without spending a dime. Keep in mind free events like the American Film Series, the L’Organo Recital Series, and the Children’s Programs at the Library.

The mayor’s celebrating the holiday at Hampton Park with a ceremony at 3 p.m. commemorating the very first Memorial Day. You can watch the final bouts of the Lowcountry Soccer Festival. And it won’t cost you anything to attend the last day of the Cynthia Rowley Memorial Day sale, but if you buy a dress or a bag, you’ll negate the whole freeloading concept.

TUESDAY. Meghan Jean will host another Viral Video Tuesday at The Mill.

WEDNESDAY. There’s be a reception for the Sundown Poetry Series (which, by the way, is a completely free Piccolo event) at Bernie Horton Gallery immediately following Helen C. Brandenburg’s reading. Eye Level Art hosts a panel discussion for the State of Shock exhibit at 7 p.m. And you can head out to Kiawah for the Starlight Cinema Series showing of Secondhand Lions.

There’s a concert at this week’s North Charleston Farmers Market. Get your aural and oral fixes at the same time. Horton Hayes Fine Art hosts the opening of Landmarks from 6-8 p.m. Plus, Josh Phillips Folk Fest plays with Now You See Them and Flatt City at the Pour House. But most importantly, whether you’re going to the concert or not, you should stop by Vickery’s for the Die Roten Punkte Rock Party before and after the show.

FRIDAY. Surf the crowd at the Piccolo Beach Music Bash Block Party. You’ll hit the visual art motherload at the Spoleto Stroll. See works (and get wine and snacks) at downtown galleries.

SATURDAY. Stop by the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival or peruse the Lowcountry Artist Market. And it may not sound like fun, but the IRS is holding an open house, offering valuable information for taxpayers.

SUNDAY. St. James Episcopal Church is hosting a concert featuring works by Schumann, Beethoven, and Bolling. And the Tattooed Moose hosts The Fuck Yeah! Dance Party. Trust us, you have nowhere better to go on a Sunday night than to that.
