Alright, Freeloaders, you’ve had a good three weeks to develop your costumes and polish your carving skills. Now, it’s time to break out your masterpieces and cash in at the lineup of free costume parties and carving competitions this week. Your hard work may just pay off with some prizes.
Monday: Celebrate Sparians Grand Opening Week with different deals each day, from free bowling to appetizers and more. Tonight, wear your favorite football team’s jersey to the bowling alley and you’ll get a free appetizer card while enjoying half price bowling. Attend LifeManagement Center’s Annual Corporate Spelling Bee. But, if you’ve done too much thinking today, relax to the sweet tunes at the College of Charleston’s Piano recital.
Tuesday: At Sparians, your first game of bowling is free all day. Young stars from the Charleston Academy of Music will showcase their skills at the organization’s benefit concert. Head to the Citadel for a showing of War Is Not a Game, a documentary following the experiences of eight soldiers at war on several continents.
Wednesday: In the afternoon, visit MUSC’s urban farm for their Food Day Fall Festival. It’s a pumpkin bonanza with a pumpkin painting contest, a pumpkin bake off, pumpkin seed spitting contest and more. Another pumpkin carving contest is going down that night at Tin Roof, too. Then, join Shock Top as they party for their End of the World Midnight Wheat Beer at the Hippodrome. You may just win the Bunker Party trip giveaway, too.
Thursday: Once you’ve polished your skills, go for yet another carving contest at Poe’s. Music by the Larry David Project will keep you going throughout the competition and the winner will take home a $100 gift certificate to the restaurant. Freeloaders looking to save some green should attend the Sustainability Institute: Home Energy Workshop, where you will learn low and no-cost ways to save energy. Chris Judge of the University of South Carolina Lancaster will present an Art History Lecture on Archaeology of South Carolina.
Friday: This afternoon, watch archaeology demonstrations all day at the Cistern. Friday night, you’ve got two choices for Halloween parties to debut your costume. O-ku downtown will be handing out cash prizes to the best getups. Out in Mt. Pleasant, visit Fuji’s Halloween Party for even more prizes. Kids can Trick or Treat in the Park.
Saturday: Learn about Sacred Heart Singing and join the 4-part harmony singing gospel hymns and camp meeting songs. Fish for free all day at Sewee Pond at the Family Fishing Day. Then, take the family to the Fall Carnival at Smoky Oak, where kids can eat at the free hot dog and burger bar, bounce in jump castles, join a cakewalk and partake in a costume contest. Back 9 Pub is also hosting their Halloween Party this day.
Sunday: Watch As Goes Janesville and gain a glimpse into the lives of laid-off workers, business leaders and elected officials as they attempt to reinvent their lives. Then, head to the S.I.N./F&B Industry Halloween Party at Tommy Condon’s. Drink specials and free food will welcome you at the door and a costume contest could have you walking away with a prize.
