Holiday shopping takes a toll on everybody’s wallets, but there’s no shame in being a freeloader, even if it’s just for a week. And let’s face it, with all the gift-wrapping and trips to the airport, you could use a happy hour and some live music. And after this week, you won’t have to worry anymore.
TUESDAY. Whether you’re celebrating the holiday or not, Chanuka in the Square is an event everybody can observe. Camels will roam Marion Square, guests will feast on authentic food, some may even dance along to the live music by Aaron Levy and the Simon Harding Quartet, and local Holocaust survivors will light the nine-foot menorah candles. Later on, members of local jam band Danger Muffin will perform unplugged at Fiery Ron’s in West Ashley under the guise of AcousticMuffin starting at 9 p.m. Jordan Igoe and Friends will be at the Recovery Room performing their fusion of indie pop and Americana.
WEDNESDAY. Pick up some last minute handmade gifts at Barsa Tapas & Lounge during the Happy Hour Art Tent Event. They’ll have drink specials and local artisans will have their creations on display.
THURSDAY. We know you freeloaders aren’t big on cover charges, but to get into the Collective Recording Christmas Hootenanny, you’ll have to donate a canned good. But they’re making it worth your while with sets by the Shaniqua Brown, the Royal Tinfoil, Bully Pulpit, Mountains of the Earth, and more. Plus, the first 100 people in the door will get a free Collective Christmas 2011 EP. Sometimes you have to give a little to get a lot. Local blues-rock group Sarah Cole and the Hawkes will also be performing at Loggerhead’s on Folly.
FRIDAY. Megan Jean and the KFB will celebrate their tour launch party at the Mill with a performance of their airy blues-rock.
SATURDAY. Soak in the Christmas cheer one last time at the Christmas Eve Get-together for classic Christmas movies, marshmallow roasting over the fire, eggnog and hot chocolate, and a Christmas present auction. And at the ChristmaHanuKwaanzaKaNia Jam, it’s not a question of what you’re celebrating, but how hard you can celebrate.
SUNDAY. It’s Christmas! Have a happy one.
