Our review this week was on The Company Men, a conveniently topical film about people losing their jobs. I’m sure everyone can relate to this movie in some way, since we must all know someone whose lost their job as a result of the economic crisis. For me, that’s exactly the reason I don’t want to see this film. It’s hard to sympathize with "characters" scrambling for employment when someone you know may be having just as difficult of a time. And we can’t all have Hollywood endings (not to say this film ends all rosie or anything).
It’s been said before and I’ll say it again: Why on earth did Natalie Portman make No Strings Attached? I mean, really girl. Even without all the fuss about Black Swan, you’ve done some good stuff over the years. Please no more rom coms. Ever. Even though this hasn’t been getting terrible reviews, and, OK, Ashton Kutcher is a dreamboat, and Mindy Kaling is even in this. Still. For shame, Natalie. For shame.
35 Shots of Rum is playing Saturday night in Park Circle. The French film, directed by Claire Denis, is about a widower and his daughter.
