This year’s City Paper Music Awards is chock full of talented names you’ll recognize from being active on the local music scene. From gigging on the reg at local venues to releasing new songs, videos, and albums, these local acts have been busy, and now’s the time to tip your hats to your favorites.
And since this is 2018, how’s about keeping female artists in mind when you cast your vote? Last year’s votes weren’t very kind to women: only one female-fronted act (Jump Castle Riot) won an award. Only one other winning band (SUSTO) had a female anywhere in the band at all. We can do better than that — right, Charleston?
So, what’s it gonna be, kids?
You have through Fri. Oct. 26 to vote for everything from your fave hip-hop act of the year to the best music video of the year. Go show these artists some much-deserved now, here.
Voting ends at midnight on Fri. Oct. 26. We’ll announce the winners in our Wed. Nov. 14 issue, with the awards ceremony/celebration/show happening on Mon. Nov. 19.
The CPMA party will also honor the late Box Bachschmidt, who emceed the CPMAs for years. It will be difficult to carry on without him but the night will instead serve as a celebration of Box and his love for local music.
Stay tuned for CPMA party details, including ticket info. Til then, get to voting!
