FRIDAY: Preview Piccolo Spoleto with Mayor Tecklenburg at Cannon Street Arts Center

If you haven’t gotten a chance to swing by the Cannon Street Arts Center yet, then tonight’s Piccolo Spoleto preview would be an ideal opportunity to see the city’s latest arts space. The home of PURE Theatre, Cannon Street Arts Center is also a community hub, often housing visual art exhibitions, and offering space for performances from a variety of local arts groups.

Tonight, May 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. see the Arts Center for yourself, and get a taste of the city’s biggest little arts fest. Mayor Tecklenburg will be on hand to help celebrate (and we’ll put money on him performing on the piano in some capacity).
[content-1] There is no official program for the evening but you can look forward to impromptu musical selections from festival participants and supporters of the fest.

You’ll also get to see an incredible installation — we know, we’ve seen it — from the folks behind the Charleston Rhizome Collective. The tiny business installation, “You Bet ‘N Me ‘N Me ‘N You,” will be on display throughout the festival as part of the Rhizome Collective’s larger festival presence, which includes a variety of events throughout the 17 days. [content-2] Local artist Michelle Seay (this year’s poster artist for Piccolo) will have a show on display too, featuring works from her time painting a two mile stretch of King Street. The exhibition is aptly titled, King Rutledge.
