Back in late February, Isle of Palms bar and restaurant Budiroes — a tropical styled tavern and music venue at 1517 Palm Blvd. that served as home to Charleston singer/guitarist Ronnie Johnson for over three years — announced plans to close down on March 7. They regularly booked a variety of live shag and blues bands, DJs, trivia nights, and solo acoustic shows.

It looks like Johnson and his staff have crossed the Intra-coastal waterway and set up at a new spot at 1528 Ben Sawyer Blvd. (on the way out to Sullivan’s Island from Mt. P) under a slightly different name — Buddy Roe’s Shrimp Shack. “We got an offer to relocate,” says Johnson. “It use to be the Island Clubhouse where the little putt-putt place is. We did a job on it and we’re real proud of how it looks now. Business in ten times better, and we’re doing all-local shrimp, along with burgers, chicken and hot dogs … that’s it.”

Buddy Roe’s has a small stage and dance area. They already have some weekend entertainment on the May schedule. Johnson performs solo this weekend, and again on Fri. May 8. Tuba Jim & Roy are set to play at 9 p.m. on Sat. May 9.
