Plans for the renovation of the Gaillard Auditorium are moving right along … kind of. Washington, D.C.-based architect David M. Schwarz has been working on the design of the building, and he presented his plan to the public last Tuesday.

According to a report in The Post and Courier, while Mayor Joe Riley is enthusiastic about the design, others aren’t so thrilled. Local architect Jim Scott and Preservation Society Director Evan Thompson expressed concern about the Alexander and Anson streets sides of the building. Thompson also questioned adding so much office space.

The budget for the $142 million makeover shows that half the funds will come from private donations and half will come from the city. The Board of Architectural Review will discuss the design at a meeting on Thurs. Dec. 16 at 4:30 p.m.
