[image-1]First off, Westside Neighborhood is getting a new pizza joint. Second, you can give it a taste test tomorrow at Butcher & Bee’s Bazaar.
The new spot, going into the former Charleston Pizza Co. at 271 Ashley Ave., is called Luke’s Craft Pizza and is owned by Luke and Brittany Davis; Luke is so committed to making pies he sports a pizza cutter tattoo on his forearm. The two are currently working on some cosmetic improvements to the spot just off the Crosstown, like moving back the counter, bringing in a new oven, and repainting the exterior — for those not in love with the lime green building, good news, it will soon be gray. They hope to open in April.
Although they’re still finalizing the menu, Brittany says all orders will be to-go and Luke’s will offer pies only. “We’re planning on doing 14-inch pies,” says Brittany. But, you might be asking, does Charleston really need another pizza joint. [image-2]
The couple thinks the Holy City needs what they have to offer. Brittany describes their concept as in the vein as Pizzeria Beddia in Philly or Anthony Mangieri’s Una Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco. “It will be really awesome good pizza to go,” she says.
Luke is an EVO and Mellow Mushroom alum who trained at the Columbus Culinary Institute. You may have tried his food before. Prior to going out on their own, the Davises did pop-ups at Elliotborough Mini Bar.
For their B&B effort, their bringing two types of pie — three cheese with ricotta, mozzarella, and fontina, and salami with mozzarella, crushed tomato, garlic and fontina.
