The tiki gods have answered your prayers. Now you can get a Horny Monkey made with fresh pineapple and OJ and mixed up with Demarara Rums.
Avondale’s favorite tiki bar, Voodoo, is unveiling a brand new drink menu this week. It’s still the same types of drinks — think island cocktails — but they’re freshening them up with better quality rum, fresh juices, and housemade syrups and mixers.
“It’s what you really think a tiki drink should be: sweet but not too sweet or fake sweet and with a ton of rum,” says Voodoo owner Jen Kulick.
Kulick’s new favorite is the “Painkiller.” Described as “a Dang Ole Hangover Milkshake,” it contains single malt rum, fresh pineapple, and orange juice, all topped off with cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Other drinks include the pina colada ($10), the Mai Tai ($10), and the Singapore Sling. They also have plenty of punches along with the famed Scorpion Bowl, a cocktail of rum, maraschino liqueur, fresh pineapple, and lemon infused with bubbly ($18).
Drink prices have increased along with the quality, so Voodoo also plans to give customers 50 percent off during Tuesday night’s happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m.
