Gilligan’s, a locally-based seafood chain, has been given Gold Partner status by the S.C. Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Initiative. That means Gilligan’s menu has been reviewed in detail by the Aquarium, which scores each seafood item based on a sustainability scale of zero to five. Restaurants whose menus score between 3.5 and four are upgraded to Gold Partners. Four and above or above are upgraded to Platinum Partners.

Gilligan’s menu is heavy on the local shrimp, flounder, clams, and oysters and does not have such overfished species as Chilean sea bass, orange roughy, and imported shark.

Gilligan’s is currently the only gold partner. Platinum partners are Blu Restaurant & Bar, The Boathouse at Breach Inlet, Carolina’s, Fish, Lana Restaurant and Bar, and Middleton Place Restaurant. So, if you’re looking for fresh and local seafood, these might be your best bet.
