Have you already seen Harry Potter and nothing else at the multiplex interests you? Yeah, same goes for us. You might want to check out one of these special local film screenings, especially if you’re a fan of reality TV.
Michael Plumides’ Ghost Trek will screen at Thee Southern Belle at midnight on Sat. July 30. Shot as a TV pilot in Charlotte, according to the project’s Facebook page, it “follows the Paranormal Underworld Detective Society (PUDS) as they investigate haunts across the U.S. and abroad between tanning beds, babes, body-building, and bong hits — all the while risking life and limb capturing the undead and unexplained on video.” Obviously, this is going to be very different from Harry Potter. Jonny Fairplay from Survivor is one of Ghost Trek’s stars, and he’ll be at the screening, along with Real World: Las Vegas’ Trishelle Cannatella.
CP Managing Editor Chris Haire would like all of you to know about Transcendent Man: A Conversation About the Future with Ray Kurzweil, which will take place on Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. at local theaters Charlestowne Square 18 in North Charleston and the Azalea Square Stadium 16 in Summerville. Kurzweil, along with an expert panel, featuring Deepak Chopra and noted intellectual Suzanne Sommers, will talk about immortality and the “Singularity,” whatever that is. Get tickets at fathomevents.com.
And for all your Gleeks out there, this probably isn’t news to you, but stay tuned for Glee: The 3-D Concert Movie, a documentary shot during the cast’s Glee Live In Concert tour earlier this summer. The performance didn’t make it to Charleston, but this is the next best thing. Think of how much bigger Lea Michelle’s nose and ego will look on a theater screen and in 3-D. If you’re willing to pay $30 and drive to Spartanburg, you can get a “Gleek Sneak” on Aug. 10. Visit the movie’s Facebook page for updates.
